UPS preps to acquire MNX Global Logistics

Earlier today, Atlanta-based global freight transportation and logistics service provider UPS said it has entered into an agreement to acquire Long Beach, Calif.-based global time-critical logistics services provider MNX Global Logistics.

A purchase price was not disclosed. UPS said that the transaction is expected to close by the end of this year and is subject to customary regulatory review and approval.

MNX Global Logistics’ customers are comprised of multinational leaders in the biopharmaceutical, life sciences, high-tech, medical device, aviation and financial industries, whom rely on MNX to safely and securely deliver high-value, time and temperature-sensitive shipments around the world. MNX serves 190 countries and territories, and its services include Next Flight Out (NFO), Air Charter, On-Demand Courier, Managed Transportation, Service Parts Logistics (SPL) and Specialty Freight.

“UPS already brings extensive capability and industry-leading on-time delivery to our customers, and that breadth and reliability is why they place their trust in us,” said EVP and President of UPS International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions Kate Gutmann in a statement. “Together with MNX, we will further that reliability and speed globally, especially for our UPS Healthcare customers. We continue to invest in services that bring unique value to our customers and create additional growth opportunities for UPS.”

MNX has more than 800 employees in 190 countries, according to UPS. Its network includes more than 2,500 agent partners, more than 45,000 couriers, and more than 700 forward stocking locations. And it also noted that bringing MNX into the fold expands the UPS Healthcare portfolio in various ways, including:

  • radio-pharma capabilities;
  • combines MNX’s scale for time-critical shipments within UPS’s global integrated network; and
  • proprietary technology than enhancesUPS Premier

At its Sell-Side Analyst Breakfast earlier this week, UPS said that MNX will be combined with UPS Express Critical.

“By utilizing their expertise in time-critical, temperature-controlled and security-sensitive transport together with UPS’s global network, we will become even more efficient and be able to reach new markets and customers, including the radio-pharma sector,” said UPS.

MNX CEO John Labrie said in a statement that MNX is excited to combine its expertise with UPS to offer the best time-critical logistics solutions to customers around the world.

“By joining UPS, we will be able to use the MNX team's expertise in global, time-critical logistics within UPS's extensive network, allowing us to provide our customers with the best possible service,” he said. “We would like to thank Quad-C Management for their support over the years. MNX is confident that UPS is the best partner to help us accelerate our business into the future.”

Bill Seward, President, UPS Supply Chain Solutions, commented in a LinkedIn post that this strategic move exemplifies UPS's commitment to strengthening its position as a leader in the supply chain industry.

“MNX Global Logistics (MNX) expertise in delivering tailored logistics solutions, particularly within the healthcare sector, resonates deeply with our core values at UPS Supply Chain Solutions,” he said. “Together, we will bring our collective expertise and resources to develop innovative solutions that will benefit our customers across various industries.”
