Out with the old, in with the new in 2023

A few days before Christmas, Abe Eshkenazi, the CEO of theAssociation for Supply Chain Managementand I recorded ourlast episode of The Rebound Podcast for 2022. Looking back, our conclusion was that 2022 was the year supply chains stabilized. 2023 will be the year we transition to what comes next. And, I think we agree that now is the most exciting time of our careers to be part of the supply chain industry.

2023 will also be a transition year for me and Supply Chain Management Review. After nearly 10 years at the magazine’s helm—my first issue was July 2013, and as the 2nd editor in its nearly 30 year history, I’m stepping down as editorial director. Starting today,Brian StraightbecomesSCMR’sthird editor. I’m the old, he’s the new. Brian joins Peerless with more than 25 years of journalism experience, including most recently as the founding editor of FreightWaves.com and ModernShipper.com and the editor of Modern Shipper. For those interested in reaching out, Brian can be reached at[email protected].

Being involved in supply chain is still among the most exciting experiences of my nearly 43-year career in magazine journalism. I’m not walking completely off into the sunset just yet. My plan is to remain with Peerless Media in a different capacity. I’ll continue to interviewsupply chain leadersfor SCMR.com; program and host theNextGen Supply Chain Conference*; and attend industry events. I’ll continue to write aboutmaterials handling automation for Modern Materials Handling, the publication I’ve worked for off and on since 1984.

And, Abe and I will continue to welcome supply chain thought leaders on The Rebound Podcast, where we just recorded our 50th episode. It’ll keep a semi-retired guy busy. I’ll be around.

The past 9-1/2 years have been a blast. I can’t thank Brian Ceraolo and Mike Levans enough for the opportunity and the faith they showed in me when I was recruited to replace founding editor Frank Quinn, a legend in our space. And, I am so grateful for the relationships I’ve formed with some of the best supply chain programs across the globe and the friendships I’ve formed with so many authors at those universities and consulting firms that have become friends. Finally, a big thank you to the supply chain leaders who have taken the time to talk to me about what they’re trying to accomplish in their organizations and present at my conferences.

As I say, it really is the most exciting time to be in the supply chain industry.

* We’ll begin planning NextGen 2023 in March. If you’re a supply chain leader interested in presenting at this year’s event, or if you’d like to nominate your organization for one of our supply chain awards, please visit the conference website.
