Atlanta-based dry van, full truckload carrier Ascend made its first acquisition this week, purchasing Greenville, South Carolina-based Dedicated Trucking Solutions (DTS), a provider of dedicated contract carriage services.

A new report recently issued by Milwaukee-based supply chain consultancy Armstrong & Associates, entitled “Dedicated Contract Carriage vs. Dedicated Truckload Capacity—The Search for Untapped Capacity,” takes a deep dive into the challenges the trucking sector faces, at a time when capacity is perhaps tighter than it has ever been.

Freight transportation and logistics services provider Ryder System recently announced it has reached an agreement to acquire the full service lease, contract maintenance, commercial rental and dedicated contract carriage businesses of Fontana, California-based The Scully Companies Inc.
