Ryder introduces new freight broker program for motor carriers

Earlier today, Miami-based freight transportation and logistics services provider Ryder System Inc. said it has introduced a new offering for motor carriers.

Entitled the Freight Brokerage Carrier Loyalty Program, Ryder described it as a points-based program for motor carriers that work with its freight brokerage division that book and track loads through the Trucker Tools app, which provides digital trip planning, shipment visibility, predictive freight matching, and automated booking services. What’s more, Ryder said that based on level of carrier engagement with Ryder on the Trucking Tools platform, carriers in Ryder’s freight brokerage division can earn tiered discounts of up to 22% on used vehicle purchases through the end of 2023.

Through the program, Ryder said that carriers are automatically allocated to one of three tiers related to the carriers’ level of engagement with Ryder through the Trucker Tools app. And it added that for every load carriers book and track with Ryder freight brokerage on the Trucker Tools app, they earn additional points toward potentially qualifying for a 5%, 15%, or 22% discount off the advertised price of Ryder’s used vehicles through the end of the year.

Kevin Clonch, group director of transportation management at Ryder, providedLMwith an overview of this new program.

LM:What drove the need for this program? How long had it been planned/in the works?

Clonch:This program has been in the works for nearly a year, and Ryder Freight Brokerage is happy to collaborate with a company like Trucker Tools to make it a reality. We believe that this type of program further shows how much we value our strategic alliances with carriers. We wanted to create a system that rewarded great service with the ability to further our carriers’ business goals, by giving them access to a discounted fleet of expertly maintained used vehicles that will allow them to stay moving longer. We are constantly looking for ways to help our carriers where possible; because, with over 90% of our strategic carriers having 10 trucks or less, we recognize that the single biggest pain point to keeping their wheels moving is when their truck is in the shop for service.

LM:How long has Ryder had a relationship with Trucker Tools?

Clonch:赖德货运经纪关系的智慧h Trucker Tools for freight matching and visibility since 2019. We entered into this relationship because of the cutting-edge technology and access to capacity that Trucker Tools brings to the industry with their significant carrier adoption through the driver lifestyle app.

LM:Can you please provide some examples of the benefits that this program provides for motor carriers’ customers i.e., shippers?

Clonch:The goal for any shipper is to be able to get consistent service, which usually requires repeat carriers in order to deliver the type of world-class service a shipper desires. Through this program, we believe that carriers will want to move more freight for Ryder Freight Brokerage, given that the more freight they move, the bigger the discount they can get on quality used vehicles. For shippers, we believe that they will be excited about furthering their relationships with Ryder Freight Brokerage, because this program shows that we are in it for the long game, proactively doing what it takes to strengthen our carrier relationships. Shippers also gain peace of mind and world-class service, knowing that they will see consistent capacity with reliable, expertly maintained equipment to haul their precious cargo.
