STB sets dates for late April hearing on railroad service
Late last week, the Surface Transportation Board (STB), an independent adjudicatory and economic-regulatory agency charged by Congress with resolving railroad rate and service disputes and reviewing proposed railroad mergers, said it plans to hold public hearings later this month—on April 26-27—regarding recent rail service problems and recovery efforts relating to various Class I railroad carriers.

A labor standstill, with repercussions for the North American supply chain is underway in Canada, starting Sunday morning, as Calgary-based Class I railroad Canada Pacific Railway Limited (CP) and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) have not made significant headway to settle their differences. The TCRC has 16,000 Canadian-members in rail transportation and represents approximately 3,000 locomotive engineers, conductors, train and yard workers across Canada.

A public hearing hosted by the STB on these regulations is scheduled for March 15 and 16 at the STB’s Washington, D.C.-based headquarters.
