NYC Maritime Hackathon 2019: Connecting Big Data And Maritime

Heading up the initiative is Dr. Chris Clott, a professor at SUNY Maritime, who told LM in an interview that “Big Data” is changing the ocean cargo marketplace.

The newly launchedNew York Maritime Innovation Center(NYMIC)in partnership with R1 Labs will host theNYC Maritime HackathonMarch 29 – March 31, 2019.

The hackathon will address real-world challenges around data in the shipping industry, including MaritimeBig Data, Cyber Security and Supply Chain Velocity, focusing on ports, logistics and supply chain.

This is NYC’s second hackathon for the maritime industry; the first in 2017 was related to Ports. The event will take place at Company, located at 335 Madison Ave. in New York City.

The New York Maritime Innovation Center at SUNY Maritime College was formed in late 2017 to “convene, connect and catalyze” new ideas and technologies to move the global maritime industry forward.

Heading up the initiative is克里斯Clott博士, a professor at SUNY Maritime, who told LM in an interview that “Big Data” is changing the ocean cargo marketplace.

“We are being flooded with so much information, but are challenged by how to use it all,” he said. “Furthermore, it creates several layers of complexity which adds to the overall security risks.”

He expects more than 100 participants (developers, designers, domain experts) to convene for 36 hours of building prototypes and rapid fire market validations. Participants will have rare access to top maritime industry and tech executives, investors and entrepreneurs so they can effectively work on building MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) for commercially viable solutions.

The hackathon kicks off Friday March 29, 6pm with keynotes from:

Inna Kuznetsova(Board Member | Independent Non-Executive Director, Chairman of Remuneration, Nomination Committee, Global Ports Investments Plc (LSE: GLPR); Entrepreneur, Advisor)

Tero Hottinen, (Director of Emerging Digital Business, Cargotec),
