Safety netting eliminates loose box falls

On a regular basis, a southern Minnesota-based factory and DC encountered a significant issue: its loose boxes would fall off the back of storage racks, often into walkways, work areas and tunnels.

Seeking to end this problem, the factory and DC choseRackGuardplastic safety netting as a solution. To allow pallets to overlap itsstorage rackbeams without pushing out against the netting containment system, the factory’s and DC’s new netting needed to be attached, primarily using some kind of off-set.

With this in mind, the factory’s and DC’s facilities manager used off-the-shelf eye-bolts and wire cabling to create a simple off-set system.

Eye-bolts were bolted to holes in the rack uprights. Meanwhile, wire cabling was threaded through eye-bolts, resulting in the creation of a perimeter around each bay, which was off-set approximately 4.5 inches from the rack beams. In addition, cable ties were used to attach the plastic netting to the perimeter system.

The simplicity of this installation enabled the facilities manager to use internal labor, while also developing an installation schedule that minimized disruption in the facility.
