Harrison is officially in as CEO of CSX
What was widely expected in freight railroad and intermodal circles became official yesterday, when Class I railroad carrier CSX officially announced that E. Hunter Harrison was named CEO of Jacksonville, Fla.-based CSX. With Harrison now in as CEO at CSX, he takes over for Michael Ward, who retired from CSX last month and is now serving as a consultant for the company, according to CSX.

AAR reports annual gains for carload and intermodal volumes
Carloads were up 11.7 percent at 269,994, and intermodal container and trailers rose 3.3 percent annually to 271,480.

AAR reports annual U.S. carload and intermodal gains for week ending January 21
Carloads jumped 10.7 percent compared to the same week last year at 262,496, and intermodal containers and trailers saw a 5.8 percent annual increase to 267,803.

While the rail and intermodal sectors had been enjoying steady growth over the past few years, these vital sectors have not been immune to the freight slowdown being felt on the highways, in the air, and on the high seas over the course of 2016. In fact, that’s been made clear with the declining volumes on a year-to-date basis for freight rail, with intermodal following suit.

Carloads were down 5.4 percent at 262,202, and intermodal containers and trailers were off 5.8 percent at 258,020 containers and trailers.

U.S. carload and intermodal weekly volumes see steep declines for week ending July 9, reports AAR
Weekly U.S. carloads dropped 16.5 percent annually at 228,615, and intermodal containers and trailers were off 17.9 percent annually to 215,498.
