Schneider opens up New Jersey-based warehouse to meet increased port volumes

Schneider said that this facility will allow it to serve shippers that use Northeast-based ports in conjunction with its current warehouse, transload, and port drayage services in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and West Coast regions.

Truckload, intermodal and logistics services providerSchneiderannounced this week it has opened up a new 147,500 square-foot warehouse in Port Reading, New Jersey.

Green Bay, Wis.-based Schneider said that this facility will allow it to serve shippers that use Northeast-based ports in conjunction with its current warehouse, transload, and port drayage services in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and West Coast regions. And it added that it will help shippers secure ample drayage, transloading, and warehousing services to better meet demand,due to record levels of freight arriving via the Port of New York and New Jersey.

“Our new warehouse meets the needs of our customers as well as the demands of the industry,” said John Miller, Schneider vice president of commercial development, transloading and distribution, in a statement. “In this new location, we’re able to match up port [drayage] services with outbound truckload, intermodal and team expedited services, offering a seamless approach to customers’ port-to-door requirements.”

The new Schneider warehouse is comprised of a fenced-in facility; guarded and controlled entrance; clear height of 36 feet; early suppression, fast response (ESFR) sprinkler system; 23 dock doors; space for 35 trailers spots (plus off-site yard availability); and it is located near the Port of New York and New Jersey, the New Jersey Turnpike, Newark International Airport and other key facilities, such as FedEx and UPS.

When asked what drove the company to open up this warehouse, a Schneider spokesperson told LM that Schneider has 20 years of expertise in managing these services, adding that it is in the midst of significant expansion of the geographies in which it provides warehousing, distribution, transloading and port dray services.

“New Jersey has been one of the key locations we identified a few years ago,” the spokesperson explained. “Our approach is to open a warehouse/distribution center anywhere in the United States where a customer has a need that would justify the investment. In this case, we have a large anchor customer that asked for us to move ahead with the New Jersey location. Our goal now will be to expand our presence in this critical market to match the scale of these services we have offered in the Southeast, West and Mid-Atlantic for years.”

For shippers, the spokesperson said this new facility provides multiple benefits, including:
1-providing shippers with the ability to connect with one provider to handle their entire set of supply chain needs from one supplier;
2-reducing the amount of effort and coordination required by a shipper and improves the overall visibility to where their products are in their supply chain; and
-giving shippers have another option for these services in the N.J. area with a large and financially strong international organization

Schneider said that at peak operations there could be as many as 60 people working out of this facility.
